Location: On Page! On Screen! On Stage!
St. Francis College
180 Remsen Street
Brooklyn, NY 11201-4398

Created for the young and young at heart, this multi-talented trio creates an evening that’s a celebration of family and heritage.

On Page! – ‘Olympic Gardens’, Andrene Bonner (Jamaica)
“a powerful evocation of the life of an unwanted child. Bonner writes with a keen eye for telling events and an ear for the details of island life.”

On Screen! – ‘Saracca and Nation’, Merle Collins (Grenada)
“Saracca” commemorates the harvest. “Nation” refers to the “Big Drum Nation Dance”. These cultural performances owe their existence to inherited memory of Africa and to the “re-creation” within the Caribbean spaces.

On Stage! – ‘Spirit of Marcus Garvey’, Ron Bobb Semple (Guyana)
Pulling heavily on Garvey’s writings, this captivating presentation places the early twentieth century pan-Africanist’s message in a stark modern context.

Admin: $20 (advance). $15 (members/seniors/students). $10 (pickeny).

Good morning,

On behalf of the Caribbean Students Association at Columbia University, I would like to address this thank you note to you all as a token of our appreciation. Thank you for your contribution and service to our There is Hope Reception on Sunday, January 31, 2010.

I believe your outpouring of support is reason for hope. Your service and donations will bolster our There is Hope campaign goals to: 1) furnish a library of books for Richmond Primary and Infant School in St. Mary Jamaica;  2) aid and abet the countless people from Haiti’s devastating/dumbfounding earthquake; and 3) provide school supplies for school children in Grenada.

We have all heard the heartbreaking stories and seen the disheartening images of Haitians who remain without shelter, water, food or basic medical supplies. This tragedy reminds us of how fragile life is, and how we are all part of a larger global community. So again, a million thanks for answering the CSA & HSA presidents’ call to service!

One Love,

Samantha Jackson
