Ávila de las Montañas Azules

By Andrene Bonner

Mujer Negra
Feroz como el león
Fuerte como las Montañas Azules.

Ella camina en silencio entre las nubes
Misteriosa como el viento
Todavía—su política—es profunda
Su ética—es concreta
Su pasión—es real.

Mujer Negra
Feroz como el león
Fuerte como las Montañas Azules.

Ella lucha por la justicia social

y la libertad para los marginados

Da comida a los pobres

y cuida  los ancianos.

Mujer Negra
Feroz como el león
Fuerte como las Montañas Azules.

Ella es leal al país, a pesar de su complejidad

Sin embargo, ella exige contabilidad y justicia de su gobierno

Guardando la cultura a toda costa.

Mujer Negra
Feroz como el león
Fuerte como las Montañas Azules.

Con todo mi corazón
Aprecio tu amistad
Con todo mi corazón
Aprecio tu amor por la humanidad
Con todo mi corazón
Te aprecio mi camarada—Ávila.

Sunrise blaze the eastern sky
And liberty don’t smell like ripe mango.

Rain a fall and breeze a blow
And poor people life sour like green lime.

Moon a shine when nighttime come
And young kisses are not sweet like cane juice.

Thunder roll and lightning flash
And happiness migrate south like red breast.

It feels so good to be returning “home” to Los Angeles to be part of the vibrant, star-studded line up of writers and performers extraordinaire on June 26, 2010. My award winning book Olympic Gardens will be in fine company. Cynthia Exum, the coordinator of this event is just so accessible and has a great way of making you feel so welcome to the process. Can’t wait to meet her and be part of this great literacy/entertainment/wellness movement. I will get to hang out with my friend and award winning author, Adilah Barnes and my cuz author, Lorna Owens.  It will be even more delightful to reconnect with family and friends again. Oh for another muse!!
